Principal Embedded Software Engineer (C, C++, Linux)

Position Description:

  • ProObject has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Contractor – Software Engineer to support business growth. This position will be located in Gaithersburg, MD.  ProObject is looking for an energetic, creative and collaborative individual to work on specialized communication modems, network control software and L2/L3 networking for our products & systems used in SATCOM hubs and portable, land-mobile, airborne, helicopters, fixed-wing aircrafts.   The individual will be part of an engineering team that develops embedded and server-side software using latest toolchains in a full life cycle software development environment.
  • Software design, development, integration and support activities
  • Actively participate in software development and automated unit testing
  • Complete development projects on time and within budget
  • Analyze and resolve software issues


Special Technical Skills Desired:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 1 to 2 years of experience with scripting languages like Python, automated testing and source control systems (GIT, Bitbucket)
  • 1-2 years’ experience developing networking and control software on server-based systems
  • Proficient in Multi-threaded application development and inter-process communication
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in an Agile software methodology
  • Experience with Networking software development (protocols, messaging libraries, socket programming etc.) is desirable
  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving


Minimum Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 5-8 years in real-time embedded software development in C/C++, Linux and real-time operation systems (RTOS)
  • US Citizen, and willing and able to work on Govt. DoD projects
